Caledon Community Services offers a Literacy course, designed for adults with little to no formal education in L1 who are starting to learn English from the very beginning. Lessons are task-oriented, learner-centred, and inclusive, focusing on themes from the LINC ALL Curriculum Guidelines.
Progress is monitored using CLB level descriptors, and students are encouraged to take ownership of their learning while engaging with the community through volunteering and interaction. The program uses the HyFlex classroom model, allowing for in-person, hybrid, and 100% virtual participation to suit diverse needs. A typical day includes: 9:00 AM - 10:00 AM: Asynchronous independent learning with individual teacher support as needed. 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM: Synchronous teacher-led activities. 12:30 PM - 2:30 PM: Continued asynchronous learning.
