  • What is LINC?

    LINC, Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada is a language-training program funded by the Government of Canada through Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada. Its purpose is to provide free language instruction in one of Canada’s official languages to adult immigrants so that they may acquire the necessary language skills to integrate into Canadian society.

  • Who is eligible for LINC?

    The LINC program is free of charge if you are an adult immigrant, 18 years of age and over, and are a Permanent Resident or Convention Refugee.

  • How do I register for classes?

    To register for classes, you must first complete a language assessment. To book your language assessment, contact the CCS LINC Supervisor at (905) 584-2300 ext. 257. This confirms your eligibility and determines your current language proficiency. After the assessment, you will be placed into classes, if space allows, or placed onto the CCS LINC waiting list.

  • When are classes held?

    Classes are held Monday-Friday within the hours of 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

  • When can I start classes?

    Upon completion of your language assessment you will be placed into classes, if space allows, or placed onto the CCS waiting list. When a class space opens up you will be contacted by staff in the LINC program for placement into the appropriate class.

  • What levels of classes are available?

    We offer a variety of class levels to support learners at every stage.

    Pre-CLB (Literacy) – This is our most basic class and is idea for you if you’ve never studied English before or may have never learned to read or write in your first language.

    CLB 1-2 (Beginners) – This class is ideal if you have begun studying English and are interested in mastering grammar and vocabulary.

    CLB 3-4 (Intermediate) – and CLB 5+ (Advanced) – Once you’ve covered the basics, these classes will help you take the next steps towards proficient listening, speaking, reading and writing.

  • What is the format of a typical class day?

    A typical learning day is 5 hours – 2 hours are spent with your teacher and fellow learners. The remaining 3 hours are for you to complete lesson assignments at your own pace.

  • I have a child but want to take classes, what do I do?

    LINC classes at CCS offer free childcare services for children aged 18 months to 4 years old (if space allows).

  • I want to take classes but don’t have transportation, what do I do?

    LINC classes at CCS offer free transportation services to eligible clients.

  • What is ‘Hyflex’

    The ‘Hyflex’ format of our classes allows for flexible synchronous and asynchronous learning activities which means that you can join our classes however best fits your unique schedule – in-person, completely online or a mix of both!

    However you choose to attend, we’ve invested in technology that will allow you to have the full classroom experience with all the benefits of interaction with fellow learners.

  • What is the ‘Digital Navigator’ and how can they help me?

    If you need assistance with technology, our Digital Navigator is a member of our staff who can help you improve your digital literacy and gain the technical skills needed not only to participate in our classes but for using technology to improve your everyday life.

  • I am a Canadian Citizen but want to learn English, what do I do?
